SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

SDG 17 recognises that the bedrock to achieving the 16 other SDGs is strong collaboration between global stakeholders. The Côte d’Ivoire Hospitals Programme, as a collaboration between NMS Infrastructure Ltd., the Government of Côte d’Ivoire and the UK Government, is an example of the benefits of public-private cooperation recognised by Target 17.17, which is to “encourage and promote” public-private partnerships.

NMSI’s experience of working with UKEF, the United Kingdom’s Export Credit Agency, was an important component of the partnership with the Government of Côte d’Ivoire. Working as a private limited company with public and private project partners, NMSI has been able to assist the Ivorian government to access financing for the 2038 Côte d’Ivoire Hospitals Programme. Such financing options enabled the capital investment required by the Ministère de la Santé et de l’Hygiène Publique’s (Ministry of Public Health and Hygiene) to deliver their 2016-2020 and 2021-2025 National Health Development Plans. The structure of the programme also enabled the Government of Côte d’Ivoire to access private sector expertise from across the world, including both Côte d’Ivoire and the UK.
