World Health & Safety Day – Built to Care
H&S Day Katiola (1)

World Health & Safety Day

In 2003, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) began observing “World Day for Health and Safety at Work” to emphasise the prevention of accidents and diseases in the workplace, capitalising on the ILO’s traditional strength of tripartism and social dialogue. This year’s theme for the day was ‘a safe and healthy working environment is a fundamental principle and right at work’, and NMSI observed this across all its working sites, educating workers on issues surrounding health, safety and well-being, with all presentations delivered in local languages. In conjunction with this, NMSI advanced its annual health and safety prevention message “The Search for the Big 5”: Safety Induction, Hard Hats, Hi-Vis Vests, Safety Boots, Safety Gloves.

On 28th April, all active sites of the Cote d’Ivoire Hospital Programme, Ouangoloudougou, Kouto, Katiola, Boundiali, Minignan and Bouaké, observed World Safety Day with safety presentations given by HSE supervisors and a hazard hunt safety competition, with awards given to winners. Health and Safety talks focused on:

  • Stress at work
  • The importance of stretching
  • Housekeeping
  • Health at the workplace
